Our programs provide a routine that is flexible, adaptable, progressive, structured and developmentally appropriate for each age group.
Our aim is to ensure that each child’s needs, abilities and interests are both nurtured and fostered in a program to reflect the needs of children individually as well as the whole group.
As early childhood teachers our role is to facilitate active participation throughout all learning experiences. We achieve this by being understanding and empathetic to the needs and wants of the child and the family.
The programs operating in each room have a predictable pattern which is designed to give each child a sense of security, comfort and worth. All programs within our centre reflect the philosophy and goals of the centre as a whole as created by staff, management and families.
As each of our staff has unique skills, ideas and experiences the programs in place for each age group will vary however a set structure is in place to enhance the roles of each carer and therefore each child’s learning.
All children are observed in various ways which is an integral part of each programs creation. Experiences are then offered individually, in small and in large groups of which are evaluated for effectiveness, level of interest and the areas of learning.
The cycle of observe, plan and evaluate is a valuable and continuous process that is progressive throughout the year and reflects the changes of the children’s development throughout the process.
We welcome all families to our parent and teacher evenings as well as to information evenings we hold on a regular basis. Informal participation is also highly encouraged and valued at all times as our program incorporates each family’s ideas and values also.
The skills that the curriculum is based on through the Centre are:
Our Group Leaders develop programs that are supported by the current Queensland Pre School Curriculum Guidelines. The curriculum is viewed not simply as a series of activities for children, but rather as the full range of experiences provided for children, and their families at the centre. Routines and programs are displayed in each room. They are available for you to peruse and we invite your contribution. Routines give children a sense of the passage of time as they move through the day. Routines encourage independence and an understanding of personal hygiene.
Indoor and outdoor experiences are an integral part of our program and routine. Play is central to children’s development by providing opportunities for both structured and spontaneous activities. Play is a child’s unique way to learn about their world. It is also a means of expressing knowledge from previous experience. We aim to provide opportunities for boys and girls to play freely regardless of any stereotype roles they may choose.
