Childcare and kindergarten in Mermaid Waters, Gold Coast

Kool Kids Mermaid Waters offers long day care and a kindergarten program for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, conveniently located for families in Mermaid Beach, Mermaid Waters and Burleigh Waters.

Lakeside outdoor spaces and gardens

Our centre sits on the shores of Lake Hugh Muntz, giving children a calm, natural setting to explore every day. Outdoors, a circular sandpit, an inbuilt wooden fort and large open play areas invite imaginative play and physical activity, with a court area, decking, natural gardens and large shaded trees giving children room to move and play comfortably.

Well-equipped indoor learning rooms

Indoors, rooms are thoughtfully equipped with age-appropriate furniture and resources suited to each stage of development. The spaces give children opportunities for play-based learning, creative experiences and quieter moments across the day.

Stable educator team and individual learning

Kool Kids Mermaid Waters has a long-standing team of dedicated educators committed to building a sense of security and belonging for every child. Individual Learning Plans are developed in partnership with families and used to guide learning around each child’s strengths, interests and goals, shaping experiences that suit their needs and stage of development.

Government-approved Kindergarten program

Our Government-approved Kindergarten program is delivered by a Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teacher and prepares children for the transition to school. Children build skills and confidence through play-based learning, routines, friendships and growing independence.

Twice-weekly Japanese lessons

Children across every room take part in Japanese lessons twice a week, giving them early exposure to a second language and culture. These sessions broaden cultural awareness and language skills in an enjoyable, engaging way as part of the weekly program.

Fresh meals and family app updates

Our on-site chef prepares fresh meals and snacks every day, with a rotating seasonal menu covering breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack. Dietary, cultural and individual requirements are all catered for. Families stay connected through centre newsletters, one-on-one meetings and our family app, with day-to-day moments and learning experiences shared throughout the day.

“ I love to follow the children’s interests, using their natural curiosity to guide their learning.”

I’ve been a part of Kool Kids Mermaid Waters since 2015, where I started my early childhood journey as a student. I’ve always had a passion for working with children, which was sparked by being a kinship carer for my younger sister. Watching children learn, grow, and thrive is something that I absolutely love.

Each child is unique, and that understanding shapes my teaching style. I love to follow the children’s interests, using their natural curiosity to guide their learning. Sustainability is another passion of mine, and I enjoy involving the children in hands-on, eco-friendly activities that teach them about the environment.

At Kool Kids Mermaid Waters, we provide so much more than just a learning space—we foster social skills, friendships, and lifelong lessons that go beyond what children can learn at home. Our team here is strong, with many educators having been here for years. We all bring something special to the table, creating an environment where every day is full of fun and learning.

I’ve been fortunate to build strong relationships with many families over the years, and I believe open communication is key to supporting them. I love that I’ve been able to grow with this community and look forward to continuing this journey with the children and their families.

We can’t wait to welcome your family to our Mermaid Waters early education centre.

Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Mermaid Waters, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

Sustainability

We maintain a worm farm that educators and children care for by adding fruit scraps, watering, and turning the soil, teaching them the value of composting and waste reduction. Our indoor plants are watered weekly by the children and are placed outside over the weekend to soak up natural sunlight. We also make a conscious effort to conserve energy by turning off lights when they are not needed.

Social and emotional learning

Children develop a strong sense of identity as they feel safe, secure and supported, building confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. Through group activities, conversations and play, children learn to interact with others with care, empathy and respect, building positive relationships and friendships.

STEM

Educators introduce open-ended materials and invitations to explore, such as building, measuring and experimenting. Through shared conversations and investigation, children develop curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

See more We toured 7 different centres when we first moved to the Gold Coast before deciding on Kool Kids Mermaid Waters – and after 8 months here, we’re so glad we chose it. Our son absolutely loves going each day and is always excited to see his friends and the educators. The team is genuinely caring and attentive. A big shout out to his lead educators Talisa and Laura and the support staff, Natalia, Isabelle and Bianca – you can really see how much they love what they do. We also really appreciate that miss Talisa transitioned with the kids into the next room. That continuity made such a positive difference for our son. The outdoor space is great, and there is always something fun and creative happening for the kids. The extra-curricular activities are such a bonus too – our son loves the little bits of Japanese and Spanish he’s been learning! Miss Bonie, the centre director, is super helpful and great with communication. The daily updates are great – we always feel in the loop about what’s happening at the centre, from activities to little milestones. We couldn’t be happier with Kool Kids Mermaid Waters. Highly recommend this centre to any families looking for a caring, well run, and genuinely joyful place for their kids.

Like any big transition, it took a little time for our 14 month old to adjust, but now he absolutely loves it. A huge thank you to his wonderful teachers, Miss Rhi and Miss Hannah, who take such beautiful care of him. They truly treat him like their own, and it gives us so much comfort knowing he is in such caring hands. They have helped two very anxious parents feel completely at ease, and it’s been amazing to see our son thriving. We’d also like to thank Bonnie for running such a fantastic centre. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience so far.

See more We would like to sincerely thank Hannah, Rhiannon, and Bonnie for the incredible care, dedication, and warmth they have shown our daughter, Talia. They have been consistently kind, professional, and genuinely attentive, creating a nurturing environment that gave us complete peace of mind. We especially appreciated the creativity and thoughtfulness they put into the daily activities, which made each day engaging and enjoyable for Talia. Although we’ve had to move to a different daycare due to distance, it was not an easy decision because of the wonderful experience we had here. We always felt very comfortable leaving our daughter in their hands. We highly recommend this centre to any parents looking for a caring and supportive environment for their child.

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Learn more about our Settling-in Program.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

Kool Kids uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, Kool Kids is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
